The Gestures
I Carry

Photographic print series, created March 2026.

A series of individual photographs exploring mudras as a language of gesture, memory and inherited knowledge. Through light and shadow, each gesture becomes a mode of communication of the body, present, yet partially concealed.

The mudras form a visual vocabulary, connecting memories of culture, with my own experience of identity, movement and belonging. Each photograph stands alone, while together they create a sequence of gestures to be observed, read and remembered.

I began with what was given to me.

A history I inherited.
A culture I grew within.
A place I called home.

I grew up with things I did not always question.
Ways of seeing, ways of doing, ways of being.

Marabu — what is passed down.
Ninaivu — what is remembered.
Ver — the roots we carry.
